Disaster Housing Solutions

PREPERATION

Provide disaster preparedness training and evaluation for communities and housing providers, covering natural disasters, man-made disasters. DHC offers both virtual and in-person training, and work with partners to identify high-risk communities. Develop assessment tools, engage with communities, and provide progress reports. Assist in developing disaster plans, continuity of operations plans, and action plans. Offer technical assistance on accessing funding and implementing plans to mitigate risk and build resilience.

RESPONSE TO DISASTER

 

Provides technical assistance to housing providers, government partners, and disaster survivors on issues related to           housing loss during disaster events. Key areas of focus include:

  •  Immediate on-site response to support communities and address initial response issues

  •  Issues of shelter-in-place, evacuation, and temporary housing for survivors

  •  Building communication networks with local, state, and federal partners

  •  Assistance with long-term temporary housing and reducing capital asset damage

  •  Supporting partners and exploring new building technologies like 3D-printed houses

  •  Guidance for providers supporting displaced disaster survivors on temporary and permanent housing solutions

RECOVERY FROM DISASTER

 

Disasters are unpredictable events that require immediate response, DHC is ready to help whenever disaster strikes, we strive to be on-site as soon as it is safe to do so.

  •  Provide technical assistance to housing providers, government agencies, and partners on identifying and  producing temporary and long-term housing solutions.

  • Assist local, state, and federal partners (both private and public) in conducting effective property damage assessments.

  • Explore how new technologies and innovative housing designs can be incorporated to meet the needs of disaster survivors.

  • Provide guidance on rehabilitating existing housing stock in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  •  Support private insurance companies by providing case management services to their customers   affected by the disaster.

  •  Identify and prioritize specific projects to create short-term and long-term housing units
